When iPhone was introduced by Apple in 2007, it changed more things than many people realise. One of these was, that it started a trend for makers of all sorts of devices to try and replace physical buttons with either touchscreens or touch sensitive elements.

Part II of this series on buttons and design focusses on physical buttons (and their slow disappearance from the world). Very timely given the recent announcement by Euro NCAP, a body that provides important safety ratings for vehicles in Europe. As the Verge reported–
To be eligible for the maximum safety rating after the new testing guidelines go into effect, cars will need to use buttons, dials, or stalks for hazard warning lights, indicators, windscreen wipers, SOS calls, and the horn.
