Without live regions, some rich web applications would be more challenging to use for screen reader users. So if you’re building web applications such as Single Page Applications (SPAs), you need to understand live regions so that you can utilize them where appropriate.

We use these for our interactive slides feature on Conffab-each slide from every. presentation is lovingly converted to HTML. These are ARIA live regions so a screen reader can announce each slide as it comes on screen. There’s all a great introduction to them from our AAA conference a couple of years back.
