What is the relationship between interaction and thought? We assume that first we think, then we act. We assume there is a clean separation between thinking and doing.
The story is more complex. Consider some everyday examples. We count on our fingers. We talk to ourselves. We put a package by the door so we remember to mail it when we leave the house. We rearrange stickies on a wall to identify patterns in research data. Why do we engage in so many interactions that, on the surface, seem superfluous?
Deep interaction is the idea that interaction is an integral part of human thinking. It’s how we make meaning, develop understanding, and create insight. Interaction is more than clicking pixels and sliding fingers over glass.
This talk explores what deep interaction means for designing the digital future.
