I’ve been doing a lot of mentoring last week and the question I keep on being asked is if I understand what is happing in the job market. Which I don’t definitively but I do have some hypothesis.

Australia’s user experience (UX) and product design job market has shifted since the hiring boom during COVID-19. In 2020–21, organisations invested heavily in digital products to meet lockdown-driven demand, rapidly expanding design headcount.
The technology job market has certainly seen better days, not just globally, but locally here in Australia as well. What’s going on here in Australia, particularly in the UX and product design job market? That’s something Ben Gilmore turns his attention to here.
